Student Life and Facilities
Facilities:
At Waseley Sixth, the common room is the centre of Sixth Form life. Here, students have a place where they are able to socialise at break and lunchtimes and make use of their very own space. It really is the ’hub’ of the Sixth Form, and we encourage students to take responsibility for its cleanliness and contribute to its upkeep. The common features:
- Sixth Form only computers
- Drinks Machine
- Snacks Machine
- Kitchenette including microwave and kettle
- Social seating
Those with consent are also able to make use of the local area at lunch time which features Greggs, Subway, pizza outlets, Tesco and Morrisons to name a few.
When in supervised study, students can make use of our dedicated study area: a silent study space with access to laptops and endless academic resources. In addition, students are welcome to use their own ICT equipment within these spaces and make use of the Sixth Form Wi-Fi.
In addition students have access to a well stocked library and specialist librarian who can support them in accessing resources to help with study, revision and wider reading.
Students are expected to drive their own independent learning, seeking wider reading for all of their subjects and going ‘above and beyond’ the expectations to better their own outcomes.
Student Life:
Students in the Sixth Form sit at the top of our school and are treated like the young adults they are. Students have access to their own toilets and have the opportunity to leave the school site at lunch time. Students who are making good progress earn the opportunity to study at home for up to 5 hours a week in Year 13.
Whilst studying and academic success are the main priority of a student’s time with us at Waseley Sixth there are vast other experiences that really make the 2 years spent with us unforgettable.
With endless student leadership opportunities to be part of our wider school activities and supporting lower school students to be active citizens such as:
- Charity Committee: Charity Week, Christmas Hampers, Red Nose Day
- Eco Committee: Carbon Challenge, Recycling Drive, Energy Champions
- Sports Captains: Trust Wide Sports Day, Sportsfest, Football, Rugby and Netball teams
- Diversity Committee: Black History Month, International Women’s Day, Men’s Mental Health Day, Pride
- House Captains: Interhouse competitions and becoming one of our beloved House Mascots
- Social Committee: Organising social trips such as escape rooms, theme parks, ice skating. Organising Year 13 leavers packages such as yearbooks and Proms.
