SEND Interventions

ADHD intervention (Mrs N Joshi)

12-week course (1 session per week)

We have recently developed “Support Whilst You Wait” website pages for Worcestershire and these are now live on the Herefordshire & Worcestershire ICB Website - please see link below.  The information on these pages is designed to help CYP, Parents, Carers and Families while they wait for an appointment. The website pages contain details of resources and support available locally & nationally, including links to web resources, telephone advice and some in-person groups.

Please forward the website link, QR code and attached poster to colleagues as widely as possible.

Support available in Worcestershire while waiting for your appointment :: Herefordshire and Worcestershire Integrated Care System

The ADHD interventions will be held every Wednesday, during CULTURE. The sessions will support your child in:

  1. Understanding what is ADHD
  2. Learning more about themselves; positives about them and "things that go wrong"
  3. Barriers they face on a daily basis
  4. How well have they transitioned to WHHS
  5. Career choice
  6. Skills needed for this type of career - this should support them in making the right choice
  7. Supporting students to join our clubs in school

During these interventions, Mrs Joshi will be collecting pupil voice to update their Pupil Passports, share students' concerns and achievements with staff so that it is an open communication with all. Mrs Joshi will also review behaviour points with them (on a 1:1), alongside discussing strategies of support during these sessions. Interventions will be reviewed every 12 weeks.

IDL Support (Mr Ravenhill)

The IDL programme is delivered to support and improve students' reading and comprehension, specifically improving their NGRT score. The ideal goal for IDL is to improve on the standard score of 85. Mr Ravenhill and Ms Johnson review the programme. Students attend IDL twice a week during Culture and have the option of doing an additional session at home.

  • The Zones of Regulation (Ms Snell)

10-week course (1 session per week)

Designed to help students with self-regulation and emotional control, Zones works by teaching students about 4 Zones: Blue/Green/Yellow/Red, helping students to identify which Zone they are in at any given time and strategies that students can use when they are not in the Green (or sometimes Yellow) Zone. The idea is that no Zone is 'bad', as we all experience all 4 Zones at times, it's about helping students to identify how they are feeling and how they can get to the Zone that they need to be in.

  • Art to Support SEMH (run as a SEND after-school club this year)

Term-long course (1 session per week)

Designed to provide the students with an opportunity to engage in therapy-based Art activities, encouraging expression to help with wellbeing, and giving students a calm moment in their week. Students are also able to participate in a social environment but at a time and a place that is consistent and safe, i.e. the chance to socialise with like-minded peers but without the pressures that socialising on the playground can bring. Finally, students are able to spend time with a member of staff from the SEND department who can listen to any worries that the student might have that week.

We are also delighted to share our further interventions which our great team of Achievement Assistants deliver to support our students develop social and academic skills:

  1. Working Memory

  2. Lego Therapy

  3. ELSA

  4. TalkAbout

  5. ME intervention

  6. WAM

  7. Zones of Regulation
