  • Pupils will make creative work which explores, records and reflects on ideas in their own lives and work of other artists.
  • Pupils will learn about a range of contemporary artists whilst also understanding historical and cultural developments.
  • Pupils will evaluate and analyse their own work and the work of other creatives using subject specific language.
  • Through the curriculum pupils will learn the relevance of Art within our modern culture, raising awareness of career choices and be encouraged to develop a lifelong love of the subject.

Assessment

  • Formative assessment revolves around dialogue between teachers and pupils during lessons. Students are given targets that cater to their individual needs.
  • A baseline project in Year 7 AC1 assesses where pupils are at for each year on entry to provide an accurate assessment point from which to measure progress.
  • Regular feedback ensures that each student understands how to progress in their work. Assessment identifies if pupils have demonstrated competence in their ability to develop their: ideas through research, proficiency with materials and techniques, ability to record ideas and the ability to complete a project by arriving at a ‘final outcome’.
  • Students learn to keep a sketchbook and the importance of having pride in the presentation of their artwork.
  • Summative assessment gauges how well the pupils have demonstrated their knowledge and ability during the curriculum journey. A holistic approach is taken when assessing the students’ sketchbooks.
  • Students ability are assessed as either: Emerging, Developing, Secure or Mastered.
